RAF Fairlop
During WW1 and WW2 Fairlop waters was an airfield for lauching attacks and defence against the germans and also for maintenance of the aircraft.
The picture above does not show the run ways so I think it must have been before it was changed. I do not know what date it was taken.
In this picture you can see an up to date fairlop waters as we know it today.
This image shows where the run ways were in the classic A shape that was very common in wartime airfields.
This image shows some very interesting information about the airfield and the prisoner of war camps that were set up.
Untill recently this old aircraft hanger was in use as a kids play area but has since been removed
Here we can see the maintainence of a spitfire at RAF Fairlop during WW2
chocs away!... You have to respect the bravery of our pilots who defended our skys
This picture shows some of the damage suffered during the bombardment in Hanover Gardens near by. Note the taped up glass and wooden gates. Apparently metel gates were taken for production on equipment and weapons. Looks like the roofs could use some work too!
A big thankyou to the owners of these images to allow them to be public
